What an interesting idea. I don't imagine it would take long for software to be modified to allow you to refocus different aspects of the one image using this sort of information. As a mate indicated - the depth of field of an F/11, with an aperture at F/2.8.

Wrapped up in Life.

Sorry for the lack of updates. In part I can blame the weather, but to be honest I seem to have been particularly tired over the last few months, and so tend to spend my spare time on pursuits that favor brain death over activity. My lack of updates is squarely and boringly wrapped up in a busy life.

I am finding DA to be both inspiring and discouraging. It provides me with goals and ideas, and many beautiful examples of photography – yet leaves me somewhat overcritical of my own work. I am of course judging them against where I want to be – instead of planning out and making the many small steps required for me to get there.

To start with I need to define a goal. That would be producing aesthetically pleasing images, with maybe “interesting” thrown into the mix on occasion. Since I concentrate on birdlife and landscapes – such a simple goal is applicable.

The starting point is now noted. Now to work on what my next step needs to be.

Hampered

I’m aware that a lot of my wildlife photos of late are missing a little oomph. I’ve picked up new equipment, been scouting new locations, experimented with different approaches, and tried to get out with the camera at least once a week. They should be getting a little better.

What I have not been doing is getting out at the best time of the day for photos, or sitting on a subject for hours at a time. I have to blame my photography assistants – my wife and 13-month-old son, who accompany me on most outings now a days. They won’t get out of bed at 5:30am, and refuse to watch a bird nest for more than 30 seconds.

What can you do? :)

Here's someone who does a much better job...

Thank you.

Just a short note to say I read all comments, and really appreciate anyone who takes the time to post, be it with kind words, praise, suggestions or criticism, or who adds an image as a favourite. While I tend not to post thank you notes, be assured I am thankful. In appreciation I make a point of visiting the gallery of anyone who posts here.

You might notice that some of the images here are up to 10 years old. I am slowly going through the process of converting favourites from my photo archives to digital format, and are posting some of them to share and reflect on. Older images posted here are being scanned with a Canon 9950F at 600dpi. Dust and scratches are being blurred out, and occasionally mild adjustments made to contrast and brightness. A small number are also cropped.
